Kara's Education

Master of Science Information Systems Management

With a MSISM from Post University (formerly American Sentinel University), Kara's Master's is perfect for the role of a City Clerk-Treasurer. She uses the skills she learned obtaining this degree on a daily basis in her daily tasks as a source of information for both the general public and city staff. As a distribution center for information pertaining to current issues, events, and meetings, Kara's office is the custodian of many City records and maintains the City’s archives which go back to the late 1800s.

Bachelor of Science in Computers & Information Technology

Living in a digital world, Kara's Bachelor's degree from Arkansas State University carried into the role of City Clerk-Treasurer seamlessly. With her focus in database management, web design, and coding experience, this allowed her to create new tools for Boards, Committees, and Commissions, revamp the document retention schedules, find ways to utilize software to its full capacity, and to provide public meeting data in new ways to assist in public transparency.

Master Municipal Clerk (MMC)

Kara continued her dedication to the Clerk profession by searching out updated resources and training. By obtaining her status as a Master Municipal Clerk, she received advanced training regarding staffing, budgeting, and proper ways of creating and managing policies and procedures. Through her hard work and selfless service, she was nominated and selected to serve as a Mentor to the Clerk community in the State of Arkansas.

Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC)

To become a CMC, Kara had to complete over 200 hours of continuing education credit and classes that prepared her to make decisions regarding staffing, budgeting, document retention, and transparency.

Certified Arkansas Municipal Clerk (CAMC)

While working on obtaining the CMC status, Kara simultaneously worked on the CAMC status. The CAMC reflects that she has received specialized training pertaining to the laws and regulations of the State of Arkansas.

Certified Municipal Official (CMO)

This certification through the Arkansas Municipal League ensures Kara is prepared to assist the City of Fayetteville when it comes to difficult questions regarding public meetings, freedom of information act requests, budgetary requirements, document retention, and reporting requirements. As Kara has learned throughout the program, she has brought the information and training back to the City and her team and serves as a resource for the City Council, staff, and citizens of Fayetteville.

Housing Choice Voucher Specialist

Kara not only supports better housing availability, she was also awarded the certification as a Housing Choice Voucher Specialist during her time at the Fayetteville Housing Authority after completing specialized training. She uses her knowledge of needs and income-based programs to support Council members making difficult decisions as they arise.

Continuing Education

Kara and her staff continually attend conferences and trainings to ensure that the City of Fayetteville is up to date on the best practices that ensure technology and opportunities to enhance transparency in the community are top of the line. Over the next four years, Kara will continue to be active in ensuring her and her staff are using all techniques and technology available so Fayetteville citizens are HEARD!
