What's going on in the Clerk's office?

Community

By recognizing the needs of the community through active listening, participation in public meetings, and advocating for other voices to be heard, Kara believes that it is the Community in Fayetteville that makes our city strong.

  • Kara's office, over the last year, has participated in events hosted by the City and plans to expand this community outreach over the next 4 years.

  • The City Clerk's office has offered free Public Notary at the Welcome Fayetteville event.

  • The Clerk's office recently participated in a dog food drive and collected over 800 pounds of dog food for Rangers Pantry.

  • The City Clerk's office will be set up at the CDBG in the Park event and has scheduled other opportunities to interact with citizens face-to-face.

Communication

Kara feels that it is the duty and responsibility of the City Clerk-Treasurer's office to ensure that citizens have the ability to be heard. She plans to continue seeking methods to expand transparency and promote access to public information in the City of Fayetteville for all citizens.

  • The Clerk's office has created an email agenda comment strategy that allows citizens to directly communicate with staff and elected officials regarding City Council agenda items.

  • Kara advocated for and implemented new agenda management software within the Clerk's office, as well as supported staff in its implementation, which allows citizens faster access to information regarding public meeting items.

  • Over the next 4 years, Kara has already begun the process of streamlining processes for setting up public meetings.

  • Over the next 4 years, Kara plans to revamp the public notices process so that each notice is unique and easier for citizens to quickly access for needed information regarding our community.

Collaboration

Kara will continue to speak with other community leaders to ensure that the City of Fayetteville's residents' needs are being met from the City Clerk-Treasurer's office and beyond.

  • Kara has facilitated updating ordinance and resolution templates which reduces time from two weeks down to a day for the public to gain access to the signed ordinance or resolution, cutting down time to get new ordinances and resolutions filed with the County, coordinating with the Mayor's office and City Attorney's office.

  • Kara has been working with the Chief of Staff, Director of Human Resources, and the Mayor to update policies regarding document retention across the entire city.

  • Kara advocated for the JustFOIA software so citizens could have easier access to view the status of information requests.

  • Over the next 4 years, Kara plans to work with staff to ensure that each Board, Committee, and Commission has the ability to create effective agendas and minutes through the newly implemented agenda management software.
